ERC-funded Postdoctoral Position (4 years) in Computational Neuroscience
We are seeking a talented postdoctoral researcher with expertise in computational neuroscience and machine learning to join our team. The position is funded by the European Research Council and located at the University of Göttingen. The project focuses on developing deep learning digital twin models of neural activity in visual cortex.
Project Description:
The project aims to create a deep learning based, data-driven computational framework that captures how motor behavior influences visual processing in freely behaving mice. The successful candidate will develop deep learning-based digital twin models that integrate visual input, motor behavior, and internal states to predict neural activity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop cutting-edge video-driven latent state models of visual cortex activity
- Integrate models of visual processing with motor behavior and internal state variables
- Analyze model outputs to test theoretical frameworks about visual-motor interactions
- Work closely with experimental team members to validate computational predictions
- Contribute to the development of virtual environment models and behavioral simulation
- Co-supervise PhD students working on related computational aspects
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Computational Neuroscience, Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field
- Strong programming skills, particularly in Python and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar)
- Experience developing deep learning models for neural data analysis
- Background in computational neuroscience and neural data modeling
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong publication record in relevant fields
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with video-based neural models or video processing
- Knowledge of latent variable models and variational inference
- Familiarity with reinforcement learning
- Understanding of sensory systems, particularly visual neuroscience
- Experience with large-scale neural recordings and analysis
The Position:
- 4-year, full-time position on a E13 100% salary, level will be determined based on experience.
- Based at the University of Göttingen, Germany
- Opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary team of experimentalists and computational neuroscientists
- Access to high-performance computing clusters and cutting-edge datasets
